Early life and background

Brahma Mishra, born Bramhaswaroop Mishra in 1985, grew up in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. He completed undergraduate studies at the Institute for Excellence in Higher Education in Bhopal. While a student there he met theatre mentor Alakhnandan, who introduced him to stage work and became an influential teacher in his early formation as an actor.

In 2006 Mishra left Bhopal to pursue formal training in acting at the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune, where he completed a two-year acting course. After finishing at FTII he moved to Mumbai to build a career in film and theatre.

Career

Mishra’s acting foundation was rooted in theatre. He worked with a number of stage groups and participated in productions and backstage work under his early mentor. His first screen work included a museum film titled Nainsukh by Amit Dutta, a senior from FTII, which he performed in after relocating to Mumbai.

His feature film debut came in 2013 with Chor-Chor Super Chor, in which he played the character Vava. He went on to appear in a string of Hindi films, including Manjhi: The Mountain Man (2015), Dangal (2016), Badrinath Ki Dulhania (2017), Super 30 (2019) and Kesari (2019). In Kesari he portrayed Khudadad, a character who attains martyrdom in the story.

On the streaming front, Mishra appeared in the Amazon Prime series Mirzapur (2018), where he was credited as Lalit. He also had a credit in the web project Not Fit (2015). Across film and digital projects he was primarily cast in supporting roles that often drew on his theatre training and character actor skills.

Mishra was described as unmarried at the time of his death. His family background included a father who worked in the banking sector and a homemaker mother; he also had an elder brother, Sandeep Mishra, who worked as an advocate. During his early years in Mumbai he acknowledged financial support from his family as helping him through the period of establishing his career.

Physically, Mishra was approximately 163 cm tall (about 5 feet 4 inches). He had black hair and black eyes. He was associated with several theatre groups during his career, including Kopal Productions, and appeared in stage plays such as Sharad Joshi Express and productions with Impatient Seeker.

Death and legacy

Brahma Mishra was found dead at his rented residence on Yari Road in Versova, Mumbai, on 2 December 2021. He was 36 years old. According to police reports, his death was due to a heart attack and was described as a natural death.
