Early life and background
Brandon McMullen was born on 18 October 1999 in Durban, South Africa, and grew up in the Durban area. He attended Clifton Preparatory School in Nottingham Road before moving on to Hilton College, where he captained the school cricket side. McMullen has spoken about the pride he felt leading Hilton’s team and the strong camaraderie that helped make that period memorable.

McMullen comes from a sporting family background: his father Paul and his brother Grayson coached and supported him in his early development, and his stepmother Glynis Turner was a regular supporter during his junior years. Career
McMullen began his representative cricket in South Africa, appearing at under-19 level for KwaZulu-Natal Inland and for the Hollywoodbets Dolphins. He played in national youth tournaments such as the Coca-Cola Khaya Majola Cricket Week in 2017 and the Cubs Franchise Week in Stellenbosch in 2018 for the Dolphins U19 side.

McMullen made his One Day International debut for Scotland on 1 December 2022 against Namibia in Windhoek in the ICC Cricket World Cup League. He played his first T20 international on 20 July 2023 versus Germany in Edinburgh and wears jersey number 21 for Scotland.

The 2023 Cricket World Cup Qualifier was a breakthrough period for McMullen at ODI level.
