Camille Anne Françoise Abily was born on 5 December 1984 in Rennes, France. She grew up in Brittany and began playing organized football as a child, joining Jeanne d'Arc Bruz in 1992. Her talent earned her places at local clubs including FC Bruz, Stade Briochin and La Roche-sur-Yon before she progressed to the Clairefontaine academy in 2002, one of France’s elite training centres for young players.

Career

Abily established herself as a midfielder with a lengthy and successful club career. After graduating from Clairefontaine she signed for Montpellier, where she won domestic honours including two Division 1 Féminine titles and the Coupe de France Féminine. In 2006 she moved to Olympique Lyonnais, beginning a long association with the club that would bring considerable team and European success.

Her career also included time in the United States’ professional leagues. Abily featured in Women’s Professional Soccer, joining Los Angeles Sol for the 2009 season and later winning the WPS Championship with FC Gold Pride in 2010. She had a short loan spell back in France with Paris Saint-Germain during that period before returning to Lyon.
