Early life and background

Chanambam Rishikanta Singh was born on 5 July 1998 in Ngairangbam Makha Maning Leikai in Imphal West district, Manipur. Raised in the northeastern Indian state, he developed into a competitive weightlifter from a young age. His parents are Chanambam Irabot and Chanambam Jini Devi.

He trained at local and national sports centres during his formative years. His early development included time at the National Sports Academy in Khuman Lampak, Imphal, and later at the Army Institute in Pune. He won gold at the 71st Men Senior National Weightlifting Championships in 2019 in the under-55 kg category and went on to represent India at the 2019 Senior Commonwealth Championships in Apia, Samoa.
