Chandra Kumar Bose was born on 4 October 1960 in Calcutta, West Bengal. He grew up in a family with a long history of public service and political involvement: his father, Amiya Nath Bose, served as a member of parliament from the Arambagh constituency, and his grandfather was Sarat Chandra Bose. From an early age he was exposed to stories about his great-uncle Subhash Chandra Bose through family recollections.

Ahead of the 2021 West Bengal assembly elections, the party named him as its chief ministerial candidate for the state.

In September 2023 Bose resigned from the BJP. He explained his decision by saying he disagreed with the party's direction in West Bengal, citing concerns about polarisation and divisive politics and noting that proposals he made about how the party should operate in the state were not accepted.
