Early life and background

Kanukuntla Subhash Chandrabose was born on 10 May 1970 in Challagariga in the Warangal region of Telangana. Raised in a rural setting, his early life was shaped by local devotional and folk musical traditions that he encountered around his home. A habitual reader from childhood, he frequented a neighborhood library and began writing songs by the age of eleven. Those formative influences—oral storytelling forms and classical and folk devotional works—fed his interest in words and music through adolescence.

After finishing high school in Warangal, Chandrabose moved to Hyderabad to continue his education. He completed a diploma in Electrical and Electronics Engineering and later earned a Bachelor of Engineering in electronics. While in Hyderabad he briefly attempted to pursue singing for Doordarshan, but a friend encouraged him to concentrate on songwriting instead.

Career

Chandrabose made his Telugu film debut as a lyricist in 1995 with the song Manchu kondallona Chandram for the film Taj Mahal. Early in his career he adopted the single name Chandrabose for screen credits. Over the following decades he built a substantial body of work across Telugu cinema, writing songs for a wide range of films and collaborating with prominent composers.

Across more than 25 years in the industry, he has written nearly 3,600 songs for over 850 films, according to published information. He worked with A. R. Rahman in 2004 on the Telugu song Pedave Palikina for the film Naani. Chandrabose contributed lyrics to the highly successful Rangasthalam soundtrack (2018), which featured hits such as Jigelu Rani, Entha Sakkagunnave, and Ee Sethithone. He also wrote Ooh Antava and Srivalli for Pushpa – The Rise (2021).

International recognition arrived with the song Naatu Naatu from RRR (2022).
