Chandran Ranjith was born on 7 September 1991 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Raised in the city he still lists as his hometown, he developed an early interest in kabaddi and pursued formal coaching under a mentor named Ravi. He also trained and represented the Alanthankarai Academy, a well-regarded team from Kanyakumari district, at district and domestic-level competitions during his formative years.
