Chhavi Rajawat was born on 4 January 1977 in Jaipur, Rajasthan, and grew up in the state she would later serve in public life. She attended Rishi Valley School and Mayo College Girls’ School for her early education before moving to New Delhi for higher studies. At Lady Shri Ram College she completed a BA (Honours) in English Literature. She later pursued management and infrastructure studies, including programs at institutions such as IIMM and the Balaji Institute of Modern Management, and attended executive courses at places including the Indian School of Business and the Harvard Kennedy School.

Career

Rajawat entered public service when she contested and won the sarpanch election for Soda village in Tonk district in February 2010. Taking charge in a village that faced persistent challenges, her initial priorities were securing clean water, improving education and expanding basic healthcare. She implemented rainwater-harvesting measures to address water scarcity, overseen construction and improvement of school facilities, and organised medical camps to raise hygiene and health awareness.

During her time as sarpanch she worked to bring formal financial services to the community, helping establish the first State Bank of India branch in the village. Her tenure attracted both national and international attention: she participated in programs such as the Australia-India Youth Dialogue, the International Visitors Leadership Programme, and the Asian Forum on Global Governance, and she spoke at international conferences including the Infopoverty World Conference.

Her work drew support from government bodies and private partners, including several companies and foundations that contributed resources to development initiatives in Soda. After her sarpanch term ended in 2015, she continued to be active in civic work and stayed engaged with projects that supported the village’s welfare.
