Early life and background

Chinmayi Sripaada was born on 10 September 1984 in Mumbai and spent part of her childhood there before moving to Chennai with her mother at around age six. She grew up in a musical household and received training in both Hindustani and Carnatic styles from her mother, T. Padmhasini, who is a singer and musicologist. Chinmayi attended The Children’s Garden School and Hindu Senior Secondary School in Chennai and later earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from the University of Madras.

She learned German at the Goethe-Institut Max Mueller Bhavan in Tamil Nadu and is reported to speak multiple languages in addition to Tamil, including English, Marathi, Hindi, Malayalam, German, and Telugu.

Chinmayi’s earliest public recognition came at age 14 when she won a singing competition on the television show Saptasawarangal.
