CP Joshi Biography

Chandra Prakash (CP) Joshi is an Indian politician from Rajasthan who has represented Chittorgarh in the Lok Sabha and leads the state unit of the Bharatia

Early life and background
Chandra Prakash Joshi, commonly known as CP Joshi, was born on 4 November 1975 in Bhadsoda village in Chittorgarh district, Rajasthan. He grew up in Chittorgarh and completed his schooling at Government Senior Secondary School Senthi. Joshi went on to earn a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Maharana Pratap Government Post Graduate College, Chittorgarh, which is affiliated with Mohanlal Sukhadia University, Udaipur. He is identified as Hindu by religion and belongs to the Brahmin caste.

Career
Joshi’s political activity began in student politics. He served as vice president and later president of his college student union in the mid-1990s, initially associating with the National Students’ Union of India before moving to the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad. He entered local governance as a member of the Zila Parishad in 1994–95 and 1995–96 and later held the post of Uppradhan in Bhadesar Panchayat Samiti within Chittorgarh.

Over the following years Joshi progressed through organisational ranks in the Bharatiya Janata Party and its youth wing. He served as District President of the BJP in Chittorgarh and rose to become state president of the Rajasthan Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha. His parliamentary career began with his election to the Lok Sabha from the Chittorgarh constituency in 2014; he retained that seat in the 2019 general election.

During his terms in Parliament Joshi has been a member of several standing and consultative committees. His committee assignments have included the Standing Committee on Commerce, the Standing Committee on Railways, and the Standing Committee on Health and Family Welfare, as well as membership of the Committee on Public Undertakings and the Committee of Privileges. He has also served on consultative committees linked to the Ministry of Tourism and Culture (later described as Ministry of Culture and Tourism) and been appointed to the Standing Committee on Coal, Mines and Steel.

In party leadership, Joshi was appointed State President of the Bharatiya Janata Party in Rajasthan on 27 March 2023.

Public profile
Joshi is married to Jyotsana Joshi, and the couple have a son and a daughter. His parents are Ramchandra Joshi and Sushila Joshi. He has been active in community and sporting organisations locally, including a period as District President of the Wrestling Association in Chittorgarh.

Physically, the available details list him at approximately 180 cm (5'11") with black hair and black eyes. He is registered at an address in Somnagar-II, Madhuban Senthi, Chittorgarh, Rajasthan.

Joshi has shown an interest in continuing formal study later in life: in 2020 he appeared for a first-year LLB examination at the same college where he completed his undergraduate degree.

Controversies
Media reports cited in the available profile note two incidents that attracted public attention. In November 2022 a video was widely circulated in which Joshi was seen slapping a government employee after allegations the official had demanded a bribe related to opium licensing; the episode prompted mixed reactions. In February 2023 remarks he made while proposing a motion of thanks to the President’s address led some opposition members to accuse him of appearing to praise historical practices associated with Padmavati; Joshi later clarified he was referring to the episode of Jauhar and attributed the confusion to a translation issue.

Latest updates
As of March 2023 Joshi serves as the State President of the Bharatiya Janata Party in Rajasthan. He continues to represent Chittorgarh in the Lok Sabha and to participate in parliamentary committee work and party organisation at the state level.
