Early life and background

Cyrus Sahukar was born on 6 August 1980 in MHOW, Indore, Madhya Pradesh, India. Raised in a family with a retired military father, Behram Sahukar, and a mother, Nimeran Sahukar, who is a writer, he grew up in and around Indore and later attended St Columba's School in Delhi. He graduated from Delhi College of Arts and Commerce at the University of Delhi.

He started performing very young, joining school theatre at around age six and taking part in his school band. By his early teens he was acting in plays and, at 14, appeared in a school production of Haroun and the Sea of Stories. At 15 he performed in a musical directed by Stephen Marazzi, and shortly afterwards began professional radio work, recording voice-overs and jingles and hosting a Punjabi radio show called Radio Rampage at 16.

Career

Cyrus moved into television as one of the winners of the MTV VJ Hunt when he was 18, which marked the beginning of a long association with the channel. He became known for comedic and parody work, leading MTV’s Fully Faltoo around 2000, a show that spoofed films, TV programs and advertising. He also created memorable parody segments such as Semi Girebaal and Piddhu The Great and hosted Kickass Mornings on MTV, a mockumentary-style programme in which he performed multiple characters.

Beyond MTV, Cyrus hosted programming for other networks, including POGO All-Stars and the game show Hole in the Wall, for which he fronted close to 350 episodes. He has presented corporate shows and style programming, and hosted events for organisations including Infosys, ICICI Bank and HSBC.

On screen, Cyrus has acted in a number of Hindi films following his film debut in Om Jai Jagadish (2002). His film credits include Rang De Basanti, Aisha, Delhi 6 and Love Breakups Zindagi. He has also worked in digital television: in 2019 he appeared in the Amazon Prime web series Mind The Malhotras, and in 2018 he hosted Elovator Pitch on MTV.

Cyrus has also explored travel programming. He co-presented Great Escape with Kunal and Cyrus, a road trip-style travel show in which he and co-host Kunal Kapoor drove from Dharamsala to Spiti Valley and took part in activities such as paragliding.
