Early life and backgroundDarshana Jardosh was born on 21 January 1961 in Surat, Gujarat. She grew up in the city that she would later represent in Parliament. Jardosh completed a B.Com. degree in Economics and Banking from Sir K.P. College of Commerce, Surat in 1981 and later took a certificate course in computers from NIIT. Career
Jardosh’s public life spans local civic roles, cooperative banking and electoral politics. In the 1970s and 1980s she held student and community positions, serving as general secretary of Jeevan Bharti Educational School in Vadodara in 1976 and as a class representative at her college in 1980. She later moved into cooperative banking and municipal work in Surat, holding roles including director (1987) and managing director (2003) of the Surat Mahila Nagrik Sahkari Bank, convener of a cultural committee for the Surat Municipal School Board (1995), and vice-chairman of the health committee of Surat Municipal Corporation (2004). She was also a member of the Gujarat Social Welfare Board in 2001.
Her parliamentary career began with election to the 15th Lok Sabha in 2009 as the Bharatiya Janata Party MP from Surat. She was re-elected in 2014 to the 16th Lok Sabha with a large margin and again in 2019 to the 17th Lok Sabha. In July 2021 she was appointed Union Minister of State for Railways and Union Minister of State for Textiles in the Second Modi ministry.
