Deepak Kumar Mishra was born on 18 April 1990 in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. He completed his schooling at St John’s School, DLW in Varanasi and went on to study mechanical engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, graduating in 2009. Raised in Varanasi, Mishra later moved to Mumbai during his college years, where he developed a strong interest in theatre and filmmaking.

During his time in Mumbai he attended and organised theatre festivals, including work with events connected to other institutes such as IIT Calcutta. He began writing and directing street plays while still a student, laying the groundwork for a transition from engineering into film and theatre.

Career

Mishra’s early professional life included work at IIT Bombay and a stint in aerospace research and development before he left to pursue a career in the entertainment industry. He trained under filmmaker Joshi Paul and gained on-set experience working as an assistant director on the film Om Shanti Om in 2007.

He moved into digital and independent film work, joining The Viral Fever Media Labs in 2012 as an Associate Creative Director.
