Early life and background
Devi Sri Prasad was born Gandham Devi Sri Prasad on 2 August 1979 in Amalapuram, East Godavari, Andhra Pradesh. He grew up in Chennai in a Telugu-speaking family and was exposed to films and music from an early age; his father, G. Satyamurthy, worked as a scriptwriter in Telugu cinema and influenced his early appreciation for movies. As a child he trained in singing under Maestro U. Shrinivas while attending M. Venkata Subba Rao School in T. Nagar, Chennai, and developed a taste for a wide range of music that included Indian film composers and international artists.

Career
Devi Sri Prasad began his professional music career in the late 1990s, first contributing to a studio album in 1997 and then composing the score and soundtrack for the Telugu film Devi in 1999. His work quickly expanded into both Telugu and Tamil film industries. Early on he composed for films such as Anandam and Badri, and several of his soundtracks from that period — including Kalusukovalani, Manmadhudu and Sontham — gained notable popularity.

He has also written lyrics for more than 25 songs in Telugu and Tamil, contributing words to songs such as “Chaila Chaila” (Shankar Dada MBBS), “O Madhu” (Julayi), “Super Machi” (S/O Satyamurthy), “Bang Bang Bangkok” (Kumari 21F) and “Sarileru Neekevvaru Anthem”.
