Dewald Brevis was born on 29 April 2003 in Johannesburg, South Africa. He attended Afrikaanse Hoër Seunskool in Pretoria and grew up in a cricketing household where backyard games with his elder brother and father fuelled his early interest in the sport. Brevis comes from a Christian family; his parents are Jack and Yolanda Brevis and he has a brother named Reinard.

Career
Brevis developed through South African youth pathways, representing Northerns Under-13s and later joining Titans Cubs. A right-handed batter who bowls legbreak, he made his Twenty20 debut for South Africa Under-19s on 8 October 2021 during the 2021–22 CSA Provincial T20 Knock-Out tournament, producing a quickfire 46 off 25 balls.

He was selected for South Africa’s squad at the 2022 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup in the West Indies.
