Early life and background
Dhanya Ananya was born on 30 October 1998 in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, and later relocated with her family to Kottarakkara in Kollam, Kerala while she was in seventh grade. Raised in a Hindu household, she completed undergraduate studies in Journalism and Mass Communication at Mar Ivanios College, Thiruvananthapuram, and went on to earn a Master of Arts in Drama and Theatre from Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit at Kalady.

Her early exposure to performance came through campus and local theatre activities. While studying for her bachelor’s degree she began appearing in short films and music videos created by friends, and those formative projects helped shift her interest toward acting and formal theatre training.

Career
Dhanya started out in theatre, writing and directing a play titled The Play in 2016 and performing in stage productions such as Thuramukham and Then in 2018. Her work in short films included titles like Desperate, Extremity and The Heart of a Dog; the latter was selected for the International Film Festival of Kerala in 2017. She also took part in workshop-based projects, including a period in Lucknow working with children on an Art by Children program connected to the Kochi Muziris Biennale before returning to Kerala to focus on a screen career.

Her first on-screen credit came with a small role in the 2019 Malayalam film Athiran. She followed that with a role in Ayyappanum Koshiyum (2020) as Jessy, and appeared as Janaki in Operation Java (2021).
