Early life and background

Dhanya Balakrishna was born on 6 August 1989 in Bangalore, Karnataka. She grew up locally and attended M.E.S. School before going on to Mount Carmel College. Her father, Balakrishna Doreswamy Iyengar, is a Carnatic musician who received recognition from the Sangeet Natak Akademi in 2021.

Career

Dhanya began her performing journey with the Chennai theatre group Evam, a foundation that preceded her entry to film and television. Her first screen role came in the Tamil film 7 Aum Arivu (2011), where she appeared as Malathi. Early screen work also included a supporting part as Rashmi in the bilingual Kadhalil Sodhappuvadhu Yeppadi (the Telugu version titled Love Failure) in 2012.
