Early life and background

Dhanya Mary Varghese was born on 17 September 1985 in Idayar, Koothattukulam near Muvattupuzha in Kerala, India. She grew up in that area and completed her school education at institutions including Little Flower Girls High School, St. Joseph’s Higher Secondary School, and M.K.M. Higher Secondary School in Piravom. Dhanya went on to pursue postgraduate studies at St. Teresa’s College in Kochi and trained in the performing arts at Kalabhavan in Cochin.

Career

Dhanya began performing as a junior dancing artist in films in 2003, appearing in a song sequence in the movie Swapnam Kondu Thulabharam. Her on-screen acting debut in Tamil cinema came in 2006 with the film Thirudi, in which she played the role of Thamarai. She entered Malayalam films the following year with Nanma (2007).

Over the next several years she appeared in a range of Malayalam projects. Her role in Thalappavu (2008) drew attention, and she also worked in titles such as Vairam: Fight For Justice, Kerala Cafe, Veeramum Eeramum, and Nayakan. Beyond films, Dhanya expanded into television: she hosted and appeared on shows including Dhannya Me Vishu, Vanitha, Kali Gandaki, Food Steps, and Comedy Stars. She has also taken on hosting duties for events, having been one of the anchors for the Vanitha Asianet Film Awards in 2009, and served as a guest judge on the music reality show Idea Star Singer on Asianet in 2010.

Dhanya’s screen work has been recognized in television as well. In 2019 she received an Asianet Television Award for Best Star Pair for her performance opposite Anoop Krishnan in the serial Seetha Kalyanam. She was also the winner of the adventure reality show Bhayam in 2019.
