Early life and backgroundDharmanna Kadur was born on 8 February 1984 in Kadur, Chikmagalur, Karnataka. He grew up watching local theatre and traditional performance forms, memories that shaped his interest in acting from an early age. He attended Government Junior College in Kadur and went on to study at Kuvempu University, where he completed a graduation in Kannada. He later earned an MA in Journalism in Kannada through distance learning. His family includes his parents Hanumanna and Mallamma.
Career
Kadur’s performing journey began in the theatre circuits of Karnataka. While still young he took part in school productions and later joined established troupes and training programs, including work with Yashwanth Sardeshpande’s drama troupe and the Guru Institute in Hubli. His stage repertoire included comedies and contemporary plays such as All the Best, Sahi ri Sahi, Hingadra Dot Comedy, and Ondu Aata Bhattaraddu.
In 2013 Dharmanna appeared in the short film Jayanagara 4th Block, a collaborative project that introduced several emerging artists to wider audiences after its release on YouTube. He was also in the short film I Love You. Those early screen projects led to feature film opportunities.
Dharmanna made his Kannada feature debut in 2016 with Rama Rama Re…, directed by D Satya Prakash, playing a character named Dharma. His comic timing, expressive body language, and delivery found favor with audiences and critics, and in 2018 he received the Best Comedian award at the Radio City Cine Awards Kannada for his work in that film.
Following his debut, Kadur became a familiar face in Kannada cinema, frequently cast in comedic supporting roles. He played Gopi in the romantic comedy Mugulu Nage (2017) and appeared in multiple releases in 2019, including Lambodara, Striker, Padde Huli, and Kannad Gothilla. The early 2020s kept him active: he was seen in Sakath, Inspector Vikram, and Madhagaja in 2021.
A notable phase in his career came with D. Satya Prakash’s Man of the Match, a satirical, experimental film with a film-within-a-film structure; Kadur portrayed a fictionalised version of himself and drew praise for his contribution to the project. In 2023 he stepped into a lead role for the first time in Rajayoga, portraying Pranesh, a character shaped by childhood loss and family difficulties. He also served as a co-producer on Rajayoga, marking a new dimension in his film work.

Kadur is recognized for his comic presence and roots in theatre. He has spoken in interviews about formative influences—both local performance traditions and Kannada films—and about long-standing creative relationships with collaborators from his hometown, including peers with whom he trained and staged plays across Karnataka. Married to Kavya Dharmanna since 21 May 2014, he is a father to two children: a son, Shashank, and a daughter, Hansika. He is an Indian national and identifies with Hinduism.
