Dhruv Sushil Barman was born on 26 February 1994 in Gurgaon (Gurugram). Growing up in the Delhi-NCR region, he attended GD Goenka Public School in Delhi and GD Goenka World School in Gurgaon. His initial interest in sport was sparked by his brother; Dhruv began playing basketball at the age of six and, over time, chose to focus on the game over other childhood pastimes like football and cricket.

He later moved to Canada for higher education and attended the University of Winnipeg. While at the university he also served as a Senior Resident Assistant on campus, a role noted alongside his studies.

Career

Barman built a multi-faceted career around basketball while branching into fitness, modelling and media. As a player he rose through state-level competition in India, winning a gold medal while in the ninth grade. After moving to Canada he continued playing and led a 3-point league there before returning to India in 2017.

Back in India, Dhruv became active in the country’s 3x3 basketball scene. He has played for teams such as Delhi Hoopers and Chandigarh Challengers and competed in the 3X3 Pro Basketball League and the 3BLeague. With the Delhi Hoopers he was part of a dominant Season 1 campaign that won most of its rounds and represented the league at international World Tour events, including the World Tour Finals in Beijing.

In domestic 3x3 competition Dhruv achieved the top FIBA 3x3 ranking in India. He was named Most Valuable Player for round 2 of the second season of the 3BLeague and has been recognized in promotional partnerships, receiving endorsements from brands including Puma and being identified as a Red Bull global all-star representing India.

Beyond basketball, Barman is a certified Ashtanga yoga instructor and has worked as a model and actor. He appeared on the 2023 Netflix dating reality series In Real Love, hosted by Rannvijay Singh and Gauahar Khan, where he formed a connection with fellow contestant Ananya S Rao.
