Early life and background

Dibang was born in Arunachal Pradesh in 1971 and hails from Lohit in the same state. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Delhi. As a child he wanted to become a pilot, though he ultimately chose a career in journalism.

Career

Dibang began his professional life in print journalism. After finishing university he joined The Illustrated Weekly of India and later worked as a correspondent for The Times of India’s Sunday edition. Transitioning from print to television, he was invited by S. P. Singh to join Aaj Tak, marking his entry into broadcast news.

Following his stint at Aaj Tak, Dibang moved to NDTV. There he rose to senior editorial roles at NDTV India, serving as Executive Editor and later as Managing Director of the channel. On NDTV India he hosted Muqabla, an hour-long Hindi debate show that won the Best Talk Show Award at the Indian Television Academy Awards in 2006. He continued to be associated with Muqabla even after stepping down as Managing Director in 2007.

Dibang later joined ABP News, where he became known for hosting prime-time programming. His work for ABP includes anchoring the daily show Jan Man and the weekly programme Press Conference. Over the course of his career he has also worked with international broadcasters, including Australia’s ABC and SBS, Japan’s NHK, and Italy’s RAI.

In addition to journalism, Dibang has appeared in films. He acted as a former intelligence officer in the 2013 Bollywood film Madras Cafe. Earlier, in 2010, he appeared as a journalist in the Bengali film Gangor directed by Italo Spinelli. He also played JCP Amod Mehra in the 2016 film Pink. Before his on-screen film debut he received offers from filmmakers in other regional industries.
