Early life and background

Velamakucha Venkata Ramana Reddy, known professionally as Dil Raju, was born on 17 December 1970 in Narsingpalli in what is now the Nizamabad district of Telangana. Raised in a Tamil-speaking household, he completed his secondary schooling in Mudakpally and higher secondary education in Nizamabad before moving with his family to Hyderabad. As a youth he developed an early fascination with cinema and later worked with his brothers in an automobile spare-parts business on RP Road in Hyderabad, a location that brought him into contact with local film distribution offices.

Career

Dil Raju’s entry into the film business began through distribution. In 1994 he and his brothers formed a partnership with a Hyderabad-based distributor, and in 1996 he launched Sri Harshita Films. After that venture suffered losses and was wound down, he returned briefly to other businesses and then set up Sree Venkateswara Film Distributors in 1999.
