Early life and background

Dinesh Mahabir Bana was born on 15 December 2004 in Dhansu village, Hisar, Haryana. Raised in a family with a sports background, his father Mahavir Bana served in the Army and later worked as a head constable with the Haryana Police, while his mother Darshana Devi is a homemaker. Dinesh has a sister named Nitika Bana. He completed his school studies through the 10th standard with strong marks and was reported to be studying in the 12th standard at the time of the profile information.

He began formal cricket practice at St. Sophia Sports Academy in Haryana in 2012. Under coach Ranveer Jakhar, Bana focused on both wicketkeeping and batting, often putting in long hours of practice to sharpen his skills. He has cited Sachin Tendulkar as a batting idol.

Career

Bana is a multi-skilled cricketer who plays as a wicketkeeper-batsman for India at the Under-19 level and has represented Haryana in domestic age-group cricket. He bats right-handed and bowls both right-arm fast-medium and right-arm offbreak. He has worn jersey number 5 for the India U-19 side.

In domestic age-group competitions Bana produced notable performances that brought him to selectors' attention. He was selected for the Vinoo Mankad Trophy in 2021, and he featured in the 2021 Under-19 Asia Cup squad for India, a tournament that India won. During the Challenger Trophy, he produced an explosive innings of 170 from 98 balls, hitting 14 sixes and 10 fours — a display that helped raise his profile among selectors.

Bana was a member of the Indian squad for the 2022 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup. In the semi-final against Australia he played a brief, high-impact cameo in which he scored 20 runs off four deliveries entirely from boundaries, a sequence noted for its rarity across men’s, women’s and under-19 cricket. In the final versus England he struck two consecutive sixes off a fast bowler and finished unbeaten on 13 from five balls, and also contributed with four catches behind the stumps. His match-finishing six in the final drew comparisons from fans to past Indian finishers.

Public profile

Bana's on-field exploits, particularly in the Under-19 World Cup campaign, attracted considerable attention on social media and among cricket followers. Celebrations in his hometown and at his family home in Hisar were widely recounted after India’s title triumph. Personal details and style

Physically, Bana is listed at approximately 170 cm (5'7") and around 60 kg (132 lbs). He has black eyes and black hair. As a cricketer he is versatile: primarily a wicketkeeper and middle- to lower-order batter, with the ability to bowl both medium pace and offbreak when called upon. His training emphasis on wicketkeeping and batting has been highlighted by his coach, who credited long hours of practice for Bana’s development behind the stumps.
