Early life and background

Dino James was born on 27 September 1991 in Ghoradongri village, Sarni, in the Betul district of Madhya Pradesh. His parents are Jimmy James, who worked as an electrician, and Rani James. The family has Kerala roots, though Dino grew up in Madhya Pradesh. He completed schooling up to the 10th standard in his home state and later earned a bachelor’s degree in Nagpur. As a child he struggled with dyslexia.

From an early age he wanted to be an actor and moved to Mumbai around the age of eighteen or nineteen to pursue that dream. During his first years in the city he worked in a wide range of roles — including assistant director, spot boy, fitness trainer, guitar teacher and junior artist — and also appeared in advertisements and small television parts. After nearly eight years of effort in Mumbai and a temporary return home to help his father, he went back to the city in 2012 determined to build a career in entertainment.

Career

Dino James ultimately shifted his focus toward writing and music, following encouragement from a friend who believed his strengths lay in storytelling. He used life experience and observations from his surroundings as the primary material for his songs, aiming to make them relatable for listeners.

His breakthrough came in 2016. He released the single "Loser" on 17 October 2016, a song rooted in his own struggles, and later that year gained further attention with the track "Girlfriend," which premiered on his YouTube channel on 19 October 2016. Other songs from his catalog include "Yaadein," "Unstoppable," "Hancock," "Dooriyan," "Kaalia," and "Maa."

In 2019 he contributed vocals to the film Laal Kaptaan, performing the song "Kaal Kaal" alongside Brijesh Shandilya. In February 2022 Dino James announced a signing with Def Jam Recordings India, becoming one of the first Indian artists associated with the global hip-hop imprint. He released his debut album, titled D, on 25 May 2022 in collaboration with Def Jam Recordings India.

Beyond music, Dino has continued to appear on television. He served as a squad boss on MTV’s Hustle 2.0 in September 2022. In 2023 he participated in the stunt-based reality show Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi (Season 13) and was later announced as the winner of that season.
