Early life and background

Divya Khosla Kumar was born on 27 November 1981 in Delhi, India, and grew up in a middle-class Punjabi family. Her upbringing was conservative and academically focused; she has said that her childhood household did not encourage watching many films. Her maternal grandfather served in the Indian Army. The family lived in rented accommodation in Delhi until she was in class 10.

She completed her college education at Janki Devi Memorial College in Delhi, earning a Bachelor of Commerce degree. Later she pursued a course in cinematography in Mumbai as she prepared to move into the entertainment industry.

Career

Divya began her career in front of the camera as a young model and appeared in print ads at around 18. After relocating to Mumbai at age 20, she worked steadily in music videos and early onscreen projects. Notable early appearances include music videos such as a Salman Khan-featured “Honey Honey,” Falguni Pathak’s “Aiyyo Rama,” and singles by Abhijeet Bhattacharya and others.
