Early life and backgroundDivya Mittal was born on 23 November 1983 in Delhi and grew up in a middle-class family. She completed a B. Tech in Engineering Physics from the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, followed by an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore. Later she pursued a Micromasters course in Data, Economics, and Development Economics through MITx.
Career
Divya began her early professional life in the private sector. After finishing her MBA she worked in London at JP Morgan as an associate, where she was involved in managing and hedging large derivatives portfolios. She also briefly served as an IPS officer before joining the Indian Administrative Service.
A member of the 2013 IAS batch allocated to the Uttar Pradesh cadre, Divya’s administrative postings have covered a range of responsibilities across the state. Her early field assignments included serving as Sub-divisional Magistrate at Sidhauli, Sitapur, and later at Meerut. She also served as Assistant Secretary at NITI Aayog in New Delhi.
In subsequent roles she took on district- and region-level development responsibilities: she was Chief Development Officer of the Gonda area; Joint Managing Director of the UP State Industrial Development Authority in Kanpur; and Vice Chairperson of the Bareilly Development Authority. She held the post of District Magistrate and Collector of Sant Kabir Nagar (Khalilabad) from September 2020 until August 2022, and in September 2022 she was posted as District Magistrate and Collector of Mirzapur.
Alongside administrative duties, Divya has received recognition during training at LBSNAA. She won first prizes at innovation conferences for solutions addressing teacher absenteeism and ground water depletion, and received the Ashok Bambawale Memorial Award for outstanding performance as an IAS trainee.
