Early life and background

Divyakriti Singh Rathore was born on 29 October 1999 in Jaipur, Rajasthan. She grew up at Mundota Palace, a heritage property in Rajasthan owned by her family, and spent her childhood around horses. Her father, Vikram Singh Rathore, is a former Indian Army officer and a polo player, and her mother, Alka Tej Singh, is the owner of the family’s Mundota Fort and Palace. She has one brother, Digvijay Singh, who helps manage operations at the ancestral property.

Divyakriti attended Mayo College Girls School in Ajmer, where she first took up horseriding in seventh grade and later captained the school’s equestrian activities. She went on to study at Jesus and Mary College, University of Delhi. During her school years she also played polo and represented her school in inter-school competitions.

Career

A dedicated dressage rider, Divyakriti transitioned to pursuing equestrian sport professionally after completing her education in 2020. That year she moved to Denmark to train and bought her first horse. The COVID-19 pandemic altered her immediate plans for final examinations and international training; she spent about six months in Germany training at Hof Kasselmann.

Divyakriti has competed at national junior and young rider levels, earning medals at the Junior National Equestrian Championship in multiple years. She took part in the Junior National Equestrian Championship in New Delhi in 2016 and 2018 and in Bangalore in 2019, collecting gold, silver and bronze medals across team and individual dressage events at those championships.

At senior international level she was part of India’s dressage team at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou. Riding the Grand Prix horse Adrenaline Firfod in the team event, she helped India secure a gold medal at the 2023 Asian Games—the country’s first equestrian gold in the Games since 1982. At the Games she posted an individual Grand Prix score of 68.176 on Adrenaline Firfod. Her coach and mentor is Babette Blankespoor.

Divyakriti also competed in international competitions such as an event in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in 2023. She took part in selection trials for the Asian Games in February 2022 but was not chosen that year; after the Games were postponed she re-entered trials held between August 2022 and February 2023 and was selected, with two horses being accepted from her entries.

Awards and recognition

In recognition of her performances in 2023, Divyakriti was selected for the Arjuna Award in 2024. She described the honour as both an inspiration and a responsibility and acknowledged the encouragement of family, friends and others in the equestrian community.
