Divyansh Singh Panwar Biography

Indian 10m air rifle shooter from Rajasthan who rose quickly through junior ranks to world-class results, earning multiple ISSF medals and reaching WorldNo

Early life and background

Divyansh Singh Panwar was born on 19 October 2002 in Rajasthan, India. He grew up in a household with a strong connection to medicine: his father, Ashok Panwar, works as a surgeon at Sawai Man Singh Hospital in Jaipur, and his mother, Nirmala Devi, is a qualified nurse who runs a medical store from home. He has an elder sister named Anjali.

Divyansh began shooting training around age 12 at the Jangpura shooting range in Jaipur. He first experimented with pistol shooting but soon found rifle shooting more engaging and switched his focus to the 10-metre air rifle discipline. His school education included time at Maheshwari Public School in Jaipur.

Career

Divyansh developed rapidly through junior and senior levels, competing in AR60, ARMIX and ARTEAMM events under coaches Deepak Kumar Dubey (personal coach) and Kuldeep Sharma (national coach). Early international success at junior level helped him establish a presence on the world stage.

At ISSF events between 2018 and 2019 he collected multiple medals across individual, team and mixed-team formats. Highlights include gold medals at ISSF World Cup stages in Putian (10m air rifle) and mixed-team golds in Beijing, Munich and Putian in 2019. He won silver in the 10m air rifle at the Beijing World Cup in 2019 and took bronze in the mixed-team event in Rio de Janeiro the same year. As a junior competitor he earned medals at the ISSF Junior World Cup in Suhl and captured a junior mixed-team bronze at the World Shooting Championships in Changwon in 2018.

Divyansh made his senior shooting debut at the ISSF World Cup in Delhi. On the basis of his performances he progressed from the developmental group into the core group of India’s Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS), a move reflecting national recognition of his potential.

Public profile

Standing around 180 cm (about 5'11"), Divyansh is described as quiet and introverted off the range, preferring to keep to himself. He combines a disciplined training routine with meditation and yoga to maintain focus and calm during competition. His training has been shaped by coaches who adapted his technique and protected him from injury while allowing a shooting stance that suited his body type.

He keeps a pocket-sized edition of the Bhagavad Gita for personal reading and has stated a dream of winning Olympic gold. Divyansh admires fellow Indian shooter Abhinav Bindra and maintains hobbies outside the range: he plays guitar, enjoys homemade curd, chutney and roti, and is a dog lover with a pet named Klaus. He has also been open about balancing training with school; while he has said academics were not his primary focus during intensive training periods, he continued studies through higher secondary school.

His personality and approach have been noted by coaches: while he can be reserved and less social, they describe him as confident and mentally developing as an athlete. During the COVID-19 lockdowns in 2020–2021, his coach adapted a home environment into a makeshift 10-metre training range so Divyansh and other shooters could continue practice.

Latest updates

In 2021 the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) ranked Divyansh World No. 2 in 10m air rifle. By that time he had accumulated a string of international medals across ISSF World Cup and junior championship events, establishing himself among the leading young air-rifle shooters from India.

He continues to work with his coaches on the mental aspects of competition and on maintaining fitness tailored to his individual shooting position, while aiming to translate his junior and World Cup successes into further achievements on the senior international stage.
