Diya Kumari was born on 30 January 1971 in Jaipur, Rajasthan. Raised in the family that once ruled the princely state of Jaipur, she spent her childhood between the privileges of a royal household and the disciplined environment created by her father, who served in the Indian Army. She attended schools including Modern School in New Delhi, G.D. Somani Memorial School in Mumbai and Maharani Gayatri Devi Girls’ Public School in Jaipur. She later studied at Parsons Art and Design School in London and completed a diploma in Fine Arts Decorative Painting in 1989.

Career

Diya Kumari entered active politics in 2013 when she joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). In the same year she was elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly from Madhopur. She went on to serve as a Member of Parliament, elected from the Rajsamand constituency in 2019. In 2023 she contested the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly elections on a BJP ticket and won from the Vidhyadhar Nagar constituency. She resigned from her Lok Sabha seat on 6 December 2023.

Alongside her political life, Diya Kumari has stewarded numerous family trusts, properties and heritage enterprises tied to Jaipur’s royal legacy.
