Early life and background
Aditi Saigal was born on 21 September 1998 and grew up in New Delhi. She spent part of her childhood being raised by her paternal grandparents after her parents separated in 2006. Music was present in her home from an early age: her father, Amit Saigal, was a well-known rock musician and founder of Rock Street Journal, and her mother, Shena Gamat, is a theatre artist. Saigal adopted the stage name Dot when she was about ten years old, inspired by a small moment of creativity with her mother.

Saigal attended Mirambika – Free Progress School in New Delhi and later Woodstock School in Mussoorie. For higher education she moved to the UK, studying for a Bachelor of Arts in Music and Creative Writing at Bangor University in Wales, where she also received awards for outstanding achievement in the School of Music. She went on to pursue an MSc in Education at the University of Glasgow as a part-time, online course.

Career
Saigal began sharing music online in 2010 with the creation of her YouTube channel and became more active there from 2017, uploading intimate recordings of herself at the piano. Her early uploads included the first posted song “Reassure Me” and a breakout track titled “Everybody Dances to Techno,” which drew widespread attention in February 2017. Over the following years she released several singles and built a following for her songwriting and distinctive vocal delivery.

In July 2021 she released an extended play, Khamotion, which comprised songs she had written as part of her final year college project. Besides recording and releasing music, Saigal has worked in a number of roles related to education, theatre and music administration: she spent brief periods as an assistant audition manager at the Barefoot Theatre Company in New Delhi, as a sales assistant in Bangor, as an administrator at Bangor University’s International Education Centre, and as an administrative assistant and database designer for an academy in Gurgaon. She has also taught languages online as a freelancer and completed a short teaching internship in South Korea.

Acting and other work
Saigal made her feature-film acting debut in the 2023 adaptation of The Archies, portraying the character Ethel Muggs. That same year she appeared in a digital advertisement for the Masaba perfume LoveChild. Her artistic activities are managed by Anirban Chakraborty, director of Rock Street Journal.
