Devarakeshavi Prakasha Manu was born on 24 January 2000 in Hassan, Karnataka. He grew up in a farming family that runs a coffee farm in Hassan. As a child and schoolboy he played volleyball before shifting focus to athletics. An early moment in school — when his physical education teacher displayed a bamboo spear alongside other implements and steered him toward the javelin — set him on the path to the sport. Manu is a specialist in the javelin throw who also serves as a havildar in the Indian Army. He began training under coach Kashinath Naik in Pune in 2020.
