Rena Malik was born on October 16, 1985, and raised in a Punjabi Indian-American family in Buffalo, United States. Her parents emigrated from Delhi, India, before her birth. She grew up in Buffalo and completed undergraduate studies in biomedical sciences at the University at Buffalo, later earning a Doctor of Medicine degree there.

Career

Dr Malik trained as a resident physician beginning in June 2010 at the University of Chicago Medicine. She pursued subspecialty fellowship training in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery (FPMRS) at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center between 2016 and 2018. In October 2018 she joined the University of Maryland School of Medicine as an assistant professor. Over time she advanced to associate professor of surgery in the Division of Urology and became Director of Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Maryland School of Medicine.

Her clinical and academic work centers on FPMRS. Dr Malik has been active in research and scholarly publishing, contributing to more than 50 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters. Her research topics include gender disparities, health literacy, medical misinformation on social media, and catheter-associated urinary tract infections.
