Dr. Shagun Batra was born in New Delhi in 1999 and raised in a middle-class family. She attended Delhi Public School, R. K. Puram, and later studied at the Goethe Institut in New Delhi, where she completed a course in the German language. Her parents are Mukesh Batra, who works in the IT sector, and Meenu Batra, a homemaker. She had a brother who passed away in 2019.

Throughout her school years Shagun was a high achiever academically. She consistently topped her classes and finished higher secondary school with strong marks in the PCMB stream. These early successes carried through to medical college, where she completed her MBBS at Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC), Delhi, graduating as a gold medallist.

Career

Shagun completed an internship at Lok Nayak Hospital in Delhi during her MBBS. She began focused preparation for postgraduate medical entrance exams during her third year of medical school, finishing her internship and then dedicating herself to exam study.

In December 2020 she appeared in the GCLT MAINS exam and secured Rank 2, receiving a modest cash prize. Building on that momentum, she sat for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Postgraduate courses (NEET PG) in 2022 and secured All India Rank 1 on her first attempt. In May 2022 she also secured rank 13 in the INI-CET examination.

Her preparation combined self-study with selective coaching. Dr. Batra has expressed a clear postgraduate career aim: she intends to pursue MD (Medicine) and hoped to join the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education & Research (PGIMER) in Chandigarh, though seat availability influenced her options after the INI-CET result.
