His family background includes a long involvement in regional politics; his grandfather is Om Prakash Chautala and his great-grandfather was Chaudhary Devi Lal.
Dushyant attended St. Mary School in Hisar and The Lawrence School, Sanawar. He pursued higher studies overseas and in India, earning a B.Sc. in Business Administration and Management from California State University, a Bachelor of Laws from a National Law University, and an MA in Mass Communication from Guru Jambheshwar University of Science & Technology. He is identified with the Jat community and follows Hinduism.
Career
Dushyant’s entry into electoral politics came in 2014, when he contested the general election from the Hisar Lok Sabha constituency and won. That victory made him the youngest member of the 16th Lok Sabha, a distinction noted in record listings. He began his political career with the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD).
Internal disputes within the INLD culminated in November 2018, when Dushyant and his younger brother Digvijay were expelled from the party. The following month he launched a new regional formation, the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP), established on the ideals associated with his great-grandfather Chaudhary Devi Lal.
After forming the JJP, Dushyant contested the 2019 general election but lost to a BJP candidate. He shifted focus to state politics and stood in the 2019 Haryana Assembly elections from the Uchana Kalan constituency; he won that seat. In October 2019 the JJP struck an arrangement with the BJP that led to the party supporting the formation of the state government. He has received public recognition outside India as well; in February 2017 he was conferred a civilian honor by the Arizona State Assembly.
