Ekta Ravi Kapoor was born on 7 June 1975 in Mumbai, Maharashtra. Raised in a family with film-industry roots — her father is actor Jeetendra and her mother is producer Shobha Kapoor — she grew up in the city where she later built her production career. Ekta attended Bombay Scottish School and went on to study at Mithibai College in Mumbai. From her teenage years she gravitated toward the creative industries, beginning an internship with ad and feature filmmaker Kailash Surendranath at age 15.

Kapoor stepped into television production at a young age, beginning to produce serials after her father’s suggestion when she was 19. She became managing director of Balaji Telefilms and established herself as a prolific television producer, credited with producing more than 130 serials.
