Emmanuel Jean-Michel Frédéric Macron was born on 21 December 1977 in Amiens, France. He grew up in Amiens and attended the Jésuites de la Providence lycée there before finishing his last year of secondary school at the prestigious Lycée Henri-IV in Paris. His parents pursued careers in medicine: his father, Jean-Michel Macron, worked as a professor of neurology, and his mother, Françoise (Noguès), practiced as a physician.

Macron earned advanced degrees in France, including a DEA in philosophy from the University of Paris-Ouest Nanterre La Défense and a master’s degree in public affairs from Sciences Po (Paris Institute of Political Studies), completed in 2004. After his studies he began work as an Inspector of Finances in the French Ministry of Economy from 2004 to 2007.

Career

Macron’s public career moved from the civil service into higher political office and the private sector. In the late 2000s he spent time in the private sector as an investment banker at Rothschild & Cie Banque. He also served as deputy rapporteur for a commission on improving French economic growth in 2007.
