Early life and background

Falak Mohd Nasir Naz was born on 7 November 2004 in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh. She grew up in a modest household in the Katghar area of Prayagraj near the banks of the Yamuna. Her parents are Nasir Ahmad, who worked as a peon in a private school, and Noori Zeenat, a homemaker. She has a younger sister and an older brother.

Falak attended Arya Girls Inter College in Allahabad and later enrolled at Dr Kailash Nath Katju Inter College in Kydganj to take cricket coaching. When family finances made academy fees difficult to afford, she continued training at school under coach Ajay Yadav, who later opened an academy and provided her with free coaching.

Career

Falak began playing cricket at around age 12. Initially playing informally with friends and boys in her neighbourhood, she gradually shifted to serious training. Her coach encouraged her to develop as an all-rounder, although she had wanted to become a fast bowler.

She trained intensively in her youth, reportedly practicing for long hours each day. In 2016 she earned selection for the Uttar Pradesh junior women’s cricket team. In 2018 she participated in the Bold Trophy tournament organized by the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Academy.

Falak made her international T20 debut on 1 December 2022 against New Zealand in Mumbai. She bats right-handed and bowls right-arm medium pace. Her coach and mentor is Ajay Yadav.

Falak was selected in December 2022 for India’s ICC Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup squad. The team went on to win the tournament in South Africa in 2023, and she is noted for being part of that winning squad.
