Early life and background

G. Suresh Kumar was born on 15 November 1959 in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. He completed a Bachelor of Commerce at Kerala University in Thiruvananthapuram. He is the son of M. G. Nayar and M. S. Sharada.

Career

Kumar entered the Malayalam film world initially in a behind-the-scenes capacity, working as an assistant director on the 1978 project Thiranottam. He moved into producing in the early 1980s, beginning to produce films under the Sooryodaya Creations banner in 1982. In 1993 he established his own production house, Revathy Kalamandhir, which has gone on to back more than 32 Malayalam features.

Over the years his production credits have included titles across different genres. Notable films he produced include Poochakkoru Mookkuthi (1984), Butterflies (1993) and Aaraam Thampuran (1997). Later productions under Revathy Kalamandhir include Vettam (2004), Pachamarathanalil (2008), Match Box (2017) and Vaashi (2022).

Alongside producing, Kumar has worked as an actor in Malayalam cinema. His acting debut is recorded as No.20 Madras Mail (1990). He has taken supporting roles in a number of recent films, appearing in Ramaleela (2017), Oru Kuprasidha Payyan (2018), Sathyam Paranja Viswasikkuvo (2019), Meri Awaz Suno (2021) and 2018: Everyone is a Hero (2023). He is particularly known for portraying Kochi Raja in the historical film Marakkar: Lion of the Arabian Sea (2021).
