Garima Lohia was born in 1999 and raised in Buxar, Bihar. She completed her early schooling at Woodstock School in Buxar through class 10 and finished classes 11 and 12 at Sunbeam School, Bhagwanpur in Varanasi. Garima later attended Kirori Mal College in Delhi, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Commerce.

Garima grew up in a large joint family and experienced a significant family loss in 2015 when her father, Manoj Kumar Lohia, who worked as a wholesale garments dealer in Buxar district, passed away. Her mother, Sunita Lohia, a homemaker, raised Garima and her siblings thereafter. Garima has two sisters and a brother; one sister is married and another sister is named Astha Lohia. Her younger brother, Varun Lohia, was pursuing a B.Com degree.

Career

Garima pursued preparation for the Indian Civil Services Examination beginning in 2020 during the Covid-19 lockdown. She chose a largely self-directed study path, relying on books and online resources rather than regular classroom coaching. She did, however, enroll in a test series to practice for the mains examination.

After an unsuccessful prelim attempt, Garima persisted and cleared the UPSC Civil Services Examination on her second try. In the 2022 exam cycle she secured All India Rank 2 with a total score of 1063 marks. Her chosen optional subject for the examination was Commerce and Accountancy. As a result of her performance, she entered the Indian Administrative Service.
