Early life and background
Gaurav Kapoor was born on 30 November and grew up in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, before moving to Delhi for his education. He attended Sumermal Jain Public School in Janakpuri, New Delhi. For higher education he completed a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Journalism at Maharaja Agrasen College, Delhi University (2007–2010), and later earned a Master of Fashion Management from the National Institute of Fashion Technology (2011–2013).

Career
Kapoor began his professional life in the retail sector, working as a retail planner with Reliance Brands and then as an assistant manager at Pantaloons for nearly three years. During his time in the corporate world he was often recognized for his humour and was even nominated as the "funniest guy" in office events. While still studying and working, he explored performance opportunities such as debates, extempore and dance, and discovered stand-up comedy during college, winning a campus comedy competition.

After leaving the corporate track, Kapoor pursued comedy full time. He established himself on the live circuit by winning multiple open-mic competitions in Mumbai, including events such as Big Mic, Canvas Laugh Club, Chalta Hai and Buzz Off. A turning point in his stage career came when he opened for international and well-known Indian comedians during the Almost Famous World Tour dates in Delhi.

Kapoor expanded his reach through digital platforms. He is an active YouTuber, uploading stand-up clips that regularly attract millions of views. In 2018 he released a solo stand-up special on Amazon Prime Video titled Hahakaar, a set drawn from his life experiences and comedic observations. On 7 August 2020 he participated in Amazon Funnies, delivering a 10-minute set as part of a larger showcase of Indian stand-up talent.

Gaurav Kapoor’s comedy blends observational material with personal anecdotes. He has spoken about the contrast between viral viewership online and the challenge of filling seats for live shows, noting that while his videos gather significant views, selling tickets can be difficult. He takes the responsibilities of performing seriously and regards managing a live audience as one of the biggest challenges in comedy.

Public profile
Kapoor is Indian by nationality and identifies as non-vegetarian. Physically, he has black hair and black eyes. He drinks alcohol. His parents are Yugal Kapoor and Sunita Kapoor, and his siblings include brothers Prateek Kapoor and Kritik Kapoor, and a sister, Kritika Kapoor.

Online harassment after that show led to cancellations of some appearances. Kapoor responded to the reaction with another video in which he addressed the hateful comments and maintained a humorous tone while encouraging viewers to attend live performances.
