Gauri Chibber was born on 8 October 1970 in New Delhi, India. Raised in an Army family as the daughter of Colonel Ramesh Chandra Chhibber and Savita Chhibber, she attended Loreto Convent School in Delhi and later Lady Shri Ram College, where she completed a BA in History. She also completed a short fashion-design course at the National Institute of Fashion Technology.
