Early life and background
Gautam Gambhir was born on 14 October 1981 in New Delhi. Raised in a Punjabi Khatri family, he grew up in the capital and attended Modern School, New Delhi. He later enrolled at Hindu College, Delhi University, though his formal education is listed as a college dropout. From a young age he took to sport and began playing competitive cricket during his school years. He joined the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru in 2000 as part of his development pathway.

Gambhir established himself as a left-handed top-order batsman who represented India across formats.
