Early life and background

Gautam Rode was born on 14 August 1977 in New Delhi and raised in a Punjabi family. He attended Army Public School, Dhaula Kuan, and later studied at Shaheed Bhagat Singh College, where he completed a BCom. While at college he took part in fashion activities, won a modelling contest at BITS Pilani and served as president of his college fashion society. From a young age he showed an interest in sports, competing in sprint events during school athletics meets.

Rode adopted a vegetarian diet at the age of five and developed a long-term commitment to fitness, beginning gym training in class 10 and maintaining a disciplined workout routine as an adult. He collects stamps and coins, is a watch enthusiast with a sizable collection, and plays the flute. He is a teetotaler, although he has tasted alcohol once for a film scene. Rode is spiritual and conducts religious ceremonies at home. He has supported charitable causes for underprivileged street children and backed initiatives aimed at women’s empowerment.

Career

Gautam Rode began his career as a model appearing in television commercials before moving into acting. His first TV role came in the year 2000 with Apna Apna Style on Zee TV, and his first film appearance was as Inspector Sameer Deshmukh in Annarth (2002). He featured in music videos early on and continued to appear in several others across his career, including tracks in 2002, 2003, 2015, 2021 and 2023.

On television he established wider recognition through serial roles in series such as Baa Bahoo Aur Baby (2005) and, most notably, Saraswatichandra (2013), the latter earning him significant acclaim. Other TV projects include Maha Kumbh: Ek Rahasaya, Ek Kahani (2014), Suryaputra Karn (2015) and Bhakarwadi (2019). He has also worked as a presenter, hosting shows including India’s Got Talent 3 (2011) and multiple seasons of Nach Baliye (2012 and 2013).

Rode’s film credits include U, Bomsi & Me (2005), Agyaat (2009), Aksar 2 (2017) and State of Siege: Temple Attack (2021). In the digital space he appeared in the web series Nakaab and Jurm aur Jazbaat in 2021. Over the years he has received recognition at industry award ceremonies for his television work, including honours from Star Parivaar Awards, Zee Gold Awards, Lions Gold Awards, Asian Viewers Television Awards and the Indian Telly Awards.

In addition to his professional life, Rode has been publicly active in sharing personal milestones. He married actor Pankhuri Awasthy on 5 February 2018 at Tijara Fort Palace in Alwar, Rajasthan. The couple announced a pregnancy expectation in May 2023 and later welcomed twins, a boy and a girl, on 25 July 2023.

Rode has also been involved in a legal dispute related to a stalled real estate project in Goregaon West, in which he registered a police complaint after construction on a promised apartment did not progress and payments he made were not successfully documented by the developer.
