Gavin Packard was born on 9 June 1964 in Kalyan, Maharashtra. He grew up in a mixed family background: his father’s side was Irish American and his mother’s side Konkani Maharashtrian. His grandfather, John Packard, had served with the US Army and later settled in Mumbai. Gavin attended St. Peter’s School in Mumbai and was active in sports from a young age. He developed an early interest in bodybuilding and pursued professional training, competing successfully at state and national levels as a teenager.

Career
Packard built a career that blended acting with fitness. He made his film debut in Malayalam cinema with the 1979 film Prabhu, playing a villain, and entered Hindi films in 1984 with Jawaani in a hippie role. Over the following decades he became a familiar presence as a character actor, frequently cast in negative roles across both Malayalam and Hindi films.

His Malayalam work included appearances in Aryan (1988), Season (1989), Jackpot (1993) and Boxer (1996). In Hindi cinema he worked steadily through the late 1980s and 1990s, with credits such as Nafrat Ki Aandhi (1988), Ilaaka (1989), Sadak (1991), Patthar Ke Phool (1991), Chamatkar (1992), Mohra (1994), Bade Miyan Chhote Miyan (1998) and Pardesi Babu (1998). He also played smaller parts in later films including Hadh Kar Di Aapne (2000), Kunwara (2000), Jaani Dushman: Ek Anokhi Kahani (2002) and Guru Mahaaguru (2002). His last released film credit is listed as Yeh Hai Jalwa (2002), and another project, Rocky- The Slave, was shelved.

Beyond films, Packard worked on television and in music videos. He appeared in DD National serials such as Indradhanush (1989), Junoon (1994) and the popular superhero series Shaktimaan (1998). He had several younger siblings, including a brother named Daryl, with whom he lived in his final period according to some reports. Actor Sanjay Dutt described Packard as a close friend and said he considered himself godfather to Packard’s daughters.

Death and legacy
On 18 May 2012 Gavin Packard died at a hospital in Mumbai at the age of 48; the reported cause of death was respiratory disorders. Earlier that year he had been involved in a motorcycle accident in Kalyan Flower Market and was taken to a local hospital. He was buried at St. Andrews Burial Grounds in Bandra, Mumbai.
