Early life and background

Geetanjali Kirloskar was born on 14 October 1965 in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. She grew up in a family with ties to both Maharashtra and Kashmir; her father is connected with the former royal family of Sangli while her mother is Kashmiri. She attended the Lawrence School, Sanawar, and later studied commerce at the University of Pune, earning a Bachelor of Commerce degree.

Career

Kirloskar began her professional life in advertising and media. She trained in London in brand strategy development and client servicing with a large advertising agency and spent many years working in the sector. Over time she rose to become chief executive of Quadrant Communications, a firm associated with Lintas and the Kirloskar group. During her advertising career she created a branded‑storytelling concept called Lintertainment that aimed to integrate brands into narrative content.

Her responsibilities extended into industry initiatives and corporate leadership. She served as chairperson of the Indo‑Japan Initiative, a program funded and supported by several companies to facilitate understanding of Japanese manufacturing practices and cultural exchange. In 2021 she was named head of a CSR committee under the Health and Family Welfare and Medical Education Department. During the COVID‑19 pandemic she organised a modular 100‑bed facility that drew appreciation from the Government of Karnataka.

In 2022 she took on new corporate roles, including Chairperson at Toyota Tsusho Insurance Broker India Ltd and Director at Kirloskar Systems Limited. She has also led Kirloskar Technologies Ltd and was involved in establishing Sakra World Hospital in Bangalore, where she served as Chairperson. Vikram Kirloskar died of a heart attack on 29 November 2022; Geetanjali published a personal tribute in the Times of India in December 2022.

She has said she does not enjoy cooking and has noted that her husband would prepare weekend meals.
