Early life and background

Goldie Sohel was born on 17 September and raised in Guwahati, Assam. He comes from a musical family: his father, Jarnail Singh Sohel, is a singer, and his mother is Jasbir Kaur. He studied at Swadeshi Academy in Guwahati and earned a B.Com. degree. Goldie began playing guitar while in eighth grade and has said he learned music without formal training.

Career

Goldie’s first public releases grew out of the band he formed during his college years, called Sukoon. In that group he worked as a guitarist, vocalist, performer and songwriter. He uploaded his debut solo track, "Door Naa Jaa," to his YouTube channel in 2013.

He made an early Bollywood singing appearance with the Hindi song "Maula Maula" for the film Mumbai Can Dance Saala (2015). That same period brought regional work: he sang the Assamese track "Ulahe Abore" for the film The Underworld (2018), recorded alongside Kaveri Singh, Parineeta Borthakur and Zubeen Garg.

Goldie has both sung and worked behind the scenes as a composer and producer. In 2015 he received a Best Singer nomination at the Rajasthan Film Festival for the Rajasthani song "Maro Badlo." In 2019 he composed and produced the music for "Kisi Aur Naal," a song performed by Asees Kaur; he later released an acoustic version of that track with his own vocals. In May 2020 he and Asees Kaur recorded the duet "Baat Nahi Karni." Also in 2020 he collaborated with Arjuna Harjai and Geet Sagar on the film song "Neet Ve" from Dolly Kitty Aur Woh Chamakte Sitare.

As a composer and producer he has worked with other prominent singers. In 2021 he contributed to the music video "Kareeb," working with Vishal Dadlani, and in 2022 he produced and composed the song "Bairiya," sung by Arijit Singh. Among songs credited to him as a singer are "Kyun Dooriyan Hain" (2016), "Nai Jeena" (2019), "Aaja Ve" (2020), "Kinne Saalan Baad" (2021), "Roka Roka" (2022) and "Akhiyaan Na Akhiyaan" (2022).
