Goparaju Yegneswara Venakata Ramana Murthy was born on 5 April 1952 in Guntur, Andhra Pradesh. He grew up in that region and began acting while still in school, joining a theatre group in 1967. His roots in live performance shaped a career that moved between stage, radio, television and cinema.

Career

Ramana began performing in theatre during his teenage years and has appeared in more than 1,500 stage plays. His early credits include performances in plays such as Sakkubai, Strike and Polish Bhayya, and he has taken roles in a number of historical and mythological productions including Anubandhalu, Raktajwala, Norumuyi, Charitraku Chamatalu Padutunnayi and Nerasthudevaru.
