Early life and background

Ganesan Pechi Muthu, known publicly as GP Muthu, was born on 29 March 1985 in Udankudi, Tuticorin, Tamil Nadu. He grew up in Tamil Nadu and left formal schooling early. After leaving school he worked with his father in the family jewellery shop before that business closed. He later trained and worked as a carpenter, a trade that also suffered setbacks during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Career

Muthu found an audience by making short comic videos in a southern dialect. He began posting on TikTok, at one point creating ten to fifteen clips a day, and built a large following on the platform. When the Indian government banned TikTok in 2020, Muthu publicly described how strongly the change affected him and his career; he later moved his content to Instagram and YouTube to continue reaching fans.

By 2021 he had begun branching into other media. He appeared in a Tamil music video titled "Enna Vazhka Da" and was reported to have taken part in a film project alongside Sunny Leone. In 2022 he received the Unarvugal Award and became widely known outside social media when he took part as a contestant on season 6 of Bigg Boss Tamil.

Muthu posts primarily comedic material and has spoken openly about the role his videos played in supporting his mental health and finances after business losses. He has shared personal milestones publicly as well, including that he was the first member of his family to buy a second-hand car.
