Early life and background

Guman Singh was born on 5 June 1999 in Sherpur village, Pataudi Tehsil, Gurgaon District, Haryana. Raised in a farming family, he grew up in Gurgaon and displayed athletic ability from an early age. He began his sporting life playing gully cricket, but his speed, flexibility and agility led relatives to encourage a transition to kabaddi.

When formal facilities were not available in his village, Guman’s paternal uncle cleared part of his agricultural land to create a practice ground and trained him for several years. After that initial mentorship, Guman and a childhood companion, Manish, joined a kabaddi academy and started competing in tournaments. A foot injury at one stage threatened his progress and prompted thoughts of leaving the sport, but renewed training under his uncle helped him recover and return to form.

Career

Guman established himself as a raider and entered the Pro Kabaddi League in 2019. His debut appearance was for Jaipur Pink Panthers in Season 7, when he faced Telugu Titans in his first match. He later moved to Patna Pirates for the 2021–22 season and then to U Mumba for the 2022 and 2023–24 campaigns. At the state level, he represents Haryana.

During the 2021–22 PKL season with Patna Pirates, Guman was part of the squad that finished as runners-up. He was named Perfect Raider in at least one match during that season and received a monetary award for the distinction. Across 19 matches in Season 8 he scored 97 points and recorded four Super 10 performances. In the close Season 8 final on 25 February 2022, he contributed nine points for Patna Pirates in a narrow loss to Dabang Delhi K.C.

Guman’s performances in the 2022 auction attracted attention: he became the highest-priced Category B player when U Mumba secured him for INR 1.21 crore for that year’s season. While with U Mumba he formed an effective partnership with fellow raider Jai Bhagwan, contributing to wins such as a 30-23 victory over UP Yoddhas in Season 9 where Guman scored five points.

On 13 November 2022 Guman produced a standout showing, scoring 13 points to help U Mumba defeat his former team Patna Pirates 36-23. He finished PKL Season 9 as U Mumba’s top raider with 137 raid points, which included five Super Raids and seven Super 10s.

At the national multi-sport level, Guman represented Haryana at the 37th National Games in 2023. His team reached the final and secured the silver medal after finishing runner-up to Services in Goa.
