Gunratan Sadavarte (Bigg Boss Hindi) Biography

Gunratan Sadavarte is an Indian advocate, dentist and activist from Nanded, Maharashtra. Known for his work in law and public causes, he entered the public

Early life and background

Gunratan Sadavarte was born and raised in Nanded, Maharashtra, where he completed his schooling at Nehru English School. He pursued higher education at Milind College of Arts in Aurangabad and holds multiple professional degrees: a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (B.D.S.), a Master of Arts (M.A.), a Master of Laws (LL.M.) and a Ph.D. focused on the Indian Constitution. His family has local political connections; his father, Nivritti Sadavarte, served in elected office in the Nanded Municipal Corporation.

Career

Sadavarte’s professional life spans several fields. He began working as a dentist in 1999 at Guru Gobind Singh Medical Hospital in Nanded and later took up legal practice, appearing in the Bombay High Court from 2002. Over time he combined legal work with public activism, serving twice as president of the MAT Bar Association and leading student-focused efforts through an organisation called Samyak Vidyarthi Andolan.

His public profile grew through involvement in high-profile legal and social disputes, including litigation challenging government reservation policy for the Maratha community. That case and other public positions have repeatedly placed him at the centre of controversies and confrontations with activists and opponents.

Public profile

Sadavarte has been politically active and is identified with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). His work and activism have led to multiple legal actions and administrative penalties. In 2019 he was disqualified by the Bar Council of India from membership in any State Bar Council and from contesting certain elections. In 2023 the State Bar Council suspended his license to practice law for two years for misconduct under the Advocates Act and for protests conducted while wearing lawyer’s attire.

Several police cases and FIRs over a number of years stem from his participation in strikes, public agitations and remarks made in public forums. Arrests and subsequent releases on bail are part of his recent history; the excerpt records incidents of arrest linked to a state transport workers’ strike, allegations of using objectionable language during agitations for Maratha reservation, accusations of extortion related to MSRTC workers, and complaints alleging promotion of enmity between groups. One complaint led to his removal, along with his wife, from a directorship at a cooperative bank in May 2024 following a mismanagement complaint.

Personal life

Sadavarte is married to Dr. Jayshree Patil, who is described as both a lawyer and a doctor. The couple have two daughters, named Zane and Yuna. Zane has been noted for an act of bravery in which her quick thinking during a building fire helped save lives and earned recognition. Sadavarte’s brother, Dr. Rajaratna Sadavarte, is a medical doctor.

The family owns a Toyota Fortuner among their vehicles. Sadavarte’s early career and community involvement included work helping students and handling local issues through his organisation.

Latest updates

In 2024 Gunratan Sadavarte expanded his presence to national reality television as a contestant on Bigg Boss 18. He entered the show with a pet donkey named Max. The same year included ongoing legal and personal developments: he and his wife were removed from a cooperative bank directorship in May, and he reported receiving death threats that prompted a police complaint filed by his wife in October. He also continued to engage publicly about his time in custody in earlier years and to recount experiences he said he had while detained.

Public image and controversies

Sadavarte’s public life is closely tied to activism and litigation, and that has produced a polarized public image. He has faced physical attacks, vandalism of his vehicle, and multiple FIRs. He has at times attributed his releases from custody to political support, and he has described incidents from detention in which he says he provided medical aid and taught yoga. Legal challenges to disciplinary decisions have been part of his recent years, including a petition to the Supreme Court in 2023 that the court declined to entertain, directing him to pursue remedies in the High Court.

Gunratan Sadavarte remains a public figure whose work crosses law, health and activism. His appearance on Bigg Boss 18 and continued involvement in local and national disputes ensure he remains in the public eye.
